The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work, or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure better cleaning. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum best automatic vacuum and mop robot is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.

If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
