However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum that mops robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. Also a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
