By altering the temperature of the material, you can alter its stiffness and strength. Carbon fibers are heated to increase their tensile strength or modulus of elastic. It can be machinized in order to create voids and holes. This decreases the tensile strength but increases the modulus of elasticity.

Carbon fiber is naturally resistant to oxidation. It is therefore protected from corrosion. It has a lower coefficient than metal and therefore is less likely to alter its shape when exposed to heat. Carbon fiber has better endurance properties than metal, so it will last longer.

One of the most well-known uses of carbon fiber is in the tailplanes and fuselages of aircrafts. The strength and lightweight weight of the material allow designers to design aircrafts that are more efficient and safer than ever before.
