However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
