The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you are at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few minutes.

You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
