The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and an automatic vacuum and mop bin for emptying. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
