However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning robot mop and vacuum settings.
