This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture.
