The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
