However unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests that you clean smart robot the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so that they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is empty it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning where it began. The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

In our tests, the i7+ was more agile and faster than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It is powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task being performed. It swiftly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back again.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and a clip for a wand. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests have shown, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical not an extraordinary time to run the battery-powered cordless vacuum. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of an average-sized house but not long enough to clean every area (though an additional run-through often can be effective). It's capable of sucking up a variety of debris types and sizes during our testing, and it often goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps to get into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice addition.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top rated robot vacuum picks and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and often runs out of power before returning to its home base.
