Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot autonomous vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot autonomous vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance.
