Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an button, which displays an image of the item at the next upgrade item level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.
