The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum mop cleaner robot or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map.
