However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot automatic hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuums best we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes.
