The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detector) are both positives.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuum best vacuums we've test. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic hoovers vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Finally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuums that mop vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
