The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto vacuum and mop-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good robot vacuum as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic hoover spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
