As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. 2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum with mop vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums that mop vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
