1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ a great option for those who want an entirely automated cleaning, hands-free cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it fills up.
Both robots are adept at removing surface dirt on carpets and hard floors and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ isn't able to have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested. It may get stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.
iRobot recommends that you tidy the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might come across. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and emptys the dirt into the docking station's external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot best automatic vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or by voice.
The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy it self-empties its dust bin, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning routines and to move around the room and vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits nicely on the table for a coffee or shelves where you can move it around like a magic wand.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide fade-free power for 60 minutes. The V10's main drawback is its short running time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a typical battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is enough time to sweep a typical-sized home but not enough to reach every area. (A second run generally works). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on a robot. Because of this, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or low furniture, and it often runs out of battery power before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi cheap robot vacuum is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and can better move itself. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than some of the other models we tried which could be a deal-breaker for some shoppers.
