The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover robot vacuum for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's best robot hoover that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
