Both robots do well picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they are very good in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean up efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we tested. It may get stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or other items it might come across. You should also keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is empty, it returns to its docking station, automatically empties its debris into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning where it started. Battery life is about an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes 3 hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with all the latest features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

In our testing the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our runner-up which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin, which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in most homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that produces power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to match the task that is being completed. It is able to quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum robot vacuum and vice versa.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments and a clip for a wand. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's enough time to sweep a typical-sized home, but not enough to reach every area. (A second time generally works). However, this model doesn't have its benefits It's lighter and more maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming performance is noticeably better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on the latest model of robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris in our testing and often went over the same area many times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it's not equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our top selections such as the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and often is power-depleted before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects, as it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and can perform better on floors with low pile and bare.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The app allows you to steer the robot manually, if necessary. For example my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that can cause confusion for other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border without ever registering the high point. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
