The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's worth looking for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map.
