1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent option for those who want a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets and can move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your best robot vacuum through the app or voice.

In our testing the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self cleaning vacuum-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After connecting, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it.
