Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum will keep your floors clean enough to reduce the frequency of manual hoovering. Choose one that has an easy navigation, can clean corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that has to be emptied only once in a while.

There are models that clean and charge themselves which can be important for people with children or pets. Many of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent option for those who want a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets and can move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include clearing out any clutter or toys it might encounter. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its dirt into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line, and it has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your best robot vacuum through the app or voice.

In our testing the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self cleaning vacuum-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After connecting, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households however, it can also fit nicely on the coffee table or the bookshelf, that you can spin around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases cleaner air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes to suit the task that is being completed. It can quickly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

This model comes with an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also gives easy access to 2 attachments as well as the wand. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.

The V10's main drawback is its limited running time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is an average, not an exceptional, time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's still enough time to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home, but not quite long enough to clean every spot (though the second time around usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums the 694 is an affordable model that's a good option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It could pick up most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often is power-depleted before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum price vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It is also more durable and has a stronger motor, and works better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a wider array of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise that they are one of the top 5 robot vacuum makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization, docking frequency settings, and more. The app is simple to learn and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. However, it wasn't particularly well at avoiding taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that you can access via the app, and you can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to check in on pets or the kids if you're away from home. The dustbin and filter can be washed for quick, easy cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with a self-emptying clean station, which helps to keep the robot's bin clear and improves suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Unlike other robotic vacuums, that are specifically designed for hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. They come with a wide cleaning path and a larger dustbin that holds twice as much debris than the competition to keep the area clean for the longest time. They also have two side sweepers for cleaning along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also includes AutoSense technology, which detects the presence of dirt or debris on the surface and automatically adjusts the power level. The vacuum also comes with an app that lets users to see the virtual map, manage functions, and create schedules. Plus, you can monitor the battery's status and send it back to its dock for charging at the push of the button. The app allows you to personalize the LED lights on top of the vacuum with different colors, so you can clearly see what areas it's focusing on or where it's gotten stuck.

The application also allows you to steer the robot manually if needed. My living room rug, for example has a dark-colored border that can trip up some other robots. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border, without notifying the high point. The ability to program a cleaning robots for home schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
