Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Make sure that you use rubber gloves to protect the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

Place the new battery in the socket after the older one was removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it is securely seated in all the clips. Then, slide the cover back towards the key-ring loop until it becomes loose and falls off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. This will be used to unlock your car by the driver's side doors in the event that the key fob battery is dead or lost.
