A robot vacuum can keep your floors tidy enough to reduce the frequency of hoovering manually. Choose a robot vacuum with good navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners and has a large bin that needs to be emptied periodically.
There are also models that clean smart robot (view Khanto) and charge on their own, a feature that may be essential for those who have pets or children. The top performers in our tests have excellent obstacle avoidance.
1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. That makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it fills up.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets and are able to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities and therefore it could get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it might come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line and is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that lets it identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can direct your robot vacuum deals using the app or via voice.
In our tests, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which eliminates major sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the cheap robot vacuum to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room and sweep the area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. After connecting to these services, we were able give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum robot the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households however, it can also fit nicely on a coffee table or on the bookshelf, that you can spin around like the magic wand.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments as well as an clip for a wand. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.
The V10's main drawback is its short running time. As CR's tests have shown, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a typical and not a remarkable run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. This is enough time to clean a typical-sized home but not enough to get into every corner. (A second run usually works). That's not to say this model doesn't have its benefits It's lighter and more agile than older cordless Dysons and its vacuuming performance is noticeably superior on carpets with a low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot. It's capable of sucking up most kinds of debris in our tests, and often goes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It may get stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.
The Xiaomi Mi robot broom vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways in that it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also has physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It also feels more sturdy and has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on floors that are bare and carpets with low pile, while providing a greater variety of features for automation.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacles avoidance.
The app provides plenty of options to customize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.
In our tests in our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It was not as successful in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.
The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature lets you check in on pets or the kids if you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned to ensure a quick, painless clean-up. Contrary to other robotic vacuums which are designed for both carpets and hard floors, Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard floors. They have an extra-wide cleaning path, and a dustbin that is 2X larger than the competition. This lets them keep the area clean for longer. They also include two side sweepers that can be used to clean along edges and corners. The app allows you to customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.
The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually in the event of need. My living room rug for instance has a dark-colored border that could cause trouble for other robots. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border without ever registering the cliff. And the ability to program weekly cleaning schedules is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
