World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all the leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the number of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's an indicator of the damage and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done using the Best item upgrade's level.

On your PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories on how the item level calculation is done. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines the worth of the stats of an item really are. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.

This isn't the only factor that affects the value of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item or the item upgrading is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade Item the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
