Path of Exile Item Upgrading

item upgrading (Informer link for more info) allows players to enhance their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing the base stats of the item or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item, a player has to have it in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Usually objects with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, while items with strong bases such as eth titans aren't affected in their stats following being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor, weapons and tools for gathering, offering an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, gathered in loot, thrown away by enemies or as a reward for missions or chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview of the expected upgrade stats and the components or materials required for the upgrade.

There are three kinds of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which include gems, can be put in any type of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are gems that can only be used in legendary and ascended equipment. They provide the same benefits as jewels, but cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add a suffix at the end of item names. For example the addition of the suffix Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the case of upgrades to gather tools If a player replaces one glyph with a different one, the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component the item will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions that can be swapped freely.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process is different from previous versions in some important ways. Gear is now divided into tracks and items can be upgraded a certain number of times before being "leveled out." The costs for upgrading increase with each level, however the materials required do not. This lets players focus their efforts on a couple of key items and maximize their impact, instead of spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.

When an item is completed, it will be able to receive a new set of upgrade components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is known as the Artisan’s Energy and it resets at 0 if the upgrade fails, or increases if the upgrade items succeeds.

After a piece has been upgraded to its maximum level, it will be able to receive affixes to boost its attributes. The amount of affixes available is determined by the item's type. For example an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes, while a legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade step requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item is at its current level, and in which slot it is placed in. Typically, weapons require more Flightstones to upgrade than other types of equipment.

If an item upgrader doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC grants the player the option to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse the item with a different set or upgrades. The process can take as long as two hours and costs the same amount of material, though it will have a lower chance of success.

Engineers will utilize a level to measure the height of the building with an established point, like the benchmark. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the level and backsight rod and then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that the buildings are constructed with an extremely high degree of precision and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of altering the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial element of the game and can increase the strength, damage, or other attributes. This can be accomplished through the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item upgrade. Rerolling is costly and should only be performed in the rarest of circumstances.

The game allows players to recycle upgraded items, which can be used to acquire Reroll tokens. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or another similar item. Recyclable items have a level gauge that shows how much of the upgrade gauge has been filled. The amount of level that has been filled depends on the rarity and the upgrade cost of the item upgrader.

Prior to this, some upgrades were given priority affixes, which made them more accessible for players to roll. This meant that you could get the stats that mattered most to your build more often than other. This included things like the armor's total armor, thorns and control impaired duration reduction stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.

This has changed since the latest patch. Priority affixes have been removed, and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling for each statistic. This can be good or bad, based on what you're looking to get from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can also come with a bonus that boosts the power of the item by a specific percentage or flat value. These bonuses are offered over the standard affixes. The more you improve an item, the higher chances of obtaining the bonus of your choice.

The game also includes various sets which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are installed on the same unit. This is a great way to add a lot of power to a character without spending a lot of money.

Many players opt to reroll their equipment and weapons, especially in the beginning of the game. Rerolling can help you gain a stronger character faster, which allows you to advance in the game and attain higher tiers.

Sets

Sets are collections that can be set up differently. They can be different dimensions, have no elements, or only contain one element. They can be used for organizing data or separating information. They can also be used to study patterns. Sets can be categorized in many ways, such as by size and shape.

There are a variety of set items available to upgrade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Certain items are worth upgrading and others aren't. Upgrades are worth it for armor sets that provide high defense values and set bonuses. However, weapon upgrades often do not boost the quality of the item's stats when as compared to their purple counterparts. This makes them less attractive to upgrade if you already have a lot of armor or weapons already.

Set items can be upgraded to include special tools that are suitable for specific builds. Guillaume's Face face and Aldur's Advance boots are examples of this. Both were upgraded from Exceptional Winged Helm and Exceptional Mirrored Boots respectively, boosting their defense by 217 to 321 (Strength requirement and Level requirement was increased as well).

Upgrades are also possible to bring certain items to par with the tiers. For instance, the Immortal King set has a vast range of levels, ranging between 29 and 76. Upgrades to lower-level items could improve their defense, and increase their competitiveness in terms of damage.

Clicking the Upgrade button will display the item's attributes and the required items to upgrade it. The item's attributes will be displayed together with any required items. For example the No-mouth Face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials and 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also check the upgrade items requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.

Generally speaking the jewelry and weapons have better trade value when fully upgraded than armor. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have spells or glyphs that damage weapons. This will result in a significant improvement in their performance. Weapons with an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this as its defense value will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
