They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot vacuum cleaners best hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum with mop employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuum reviews vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
