Transponder Chip
The transponder chip or "chip key" is an electronic microchip embedded in the head of your car key, it's also one of the main security measures in your vehicle. The word transponder comes from the combination of the responder and transmitter. This is because, after the key is placed in the ignition and it is turned around, the antenna inside your car transmits a radio frequency energy to a transponder chip. The chip responds by transmitting its unique identification code back to the antenna ring. The car's computer then examines the information and determines whether it's valid or not.
If the key is not transponder, the vehicle will be unable to move. The chip is protected by a special polycarbonate coating that stops it from being copied using regular mechanical keys or copied with laser equipment. Beishir Lock and Security offers an extensive range of transponder key for a fraction of the cost of car dealers.
Transponder chips began to become popular in the 80's when GM introduced them in the Corvette. The technology significantly reduced the number of vehicle thefts as it made hot-wiring obsolete in the past. This is a simple explanation of how a chip key works and should you have any queries you can contact us.
Immobiliser System
The engine immobiliser (also known as the anti-theft system) is an important feature of your vehicle's security. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or Smart Key fob, the transponder chip inside transmits an electronic code to the vehicle's Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The ECU confirms that the code generated by the chip matches the code saved in it and then only allows the engine to begin.
The immobiliser of your car was designed to prevent theft in this way. If the code inside the chip isn't compatible it, the ECU stops the flow of current to the fuel pump relay and the injection system, keeping the engine from starting. The immobiliser can also disable the starter motor or ignition coil to prevent the engine being forced to start.
Unfortunately, the system is not 100% secure. Criminals can break the code that allows you to unlock the immobiliser on your car and start it up. The latest versions of the system utilize more cryptographic codes that makes it more difficult to guess.
Since 1998 Immobilisers for cars are now obligatory. However, a majority of vehicles already had basic systems in place. It's important to note that even though an immobiliser system makes it more difficult to steal a car, it does not prevent thieves from towing it away or breaking into the vehicle to get at your possessions.
