However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot cleaner that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
