WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item upgrading used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will be based on the current item level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using an The button will show a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current item upgrader mod level. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level for an item level Upgrade (historydb.date) in an armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will be less expensive, even if they belong to another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade items. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that the crests can only be purchased for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one use and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to avail the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
