The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and an automatic hoover bin for emptying. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.
If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
