WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level upgrade - More hints, level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader kit is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item, however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which displays an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item upgrader mod and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item upgrading is upgraded to a certain amount and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less even when they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrader gear you can locate, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The account-wide discount will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
