1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They feature motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in removing hair from dogs. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
