One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
