World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can boost the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all item tooltips. It also serves to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the item level. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it's capable of causing. The level of an item can be used to compare items when examining a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item upgrade and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items extra damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by naming them.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level of the item upgrade and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.

Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought in the shop or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
