Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they're attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using a specialist or higher salvage kit to salvage upgrade item components from other items.

The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon will absorb is contingent on the level of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to the highest upgrade level will increase the damage it absorbs. However, it's important note that this will also raise its weight, requiring it to be heavier than it was before.

There are several different types of armor upgrades available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. For instance, some upgrades will give the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The kind of armor upgrade an item will receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

A few upgrades also feature magic or a mix of magic and technology, which is shown by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Furthermore, some upgrades require a charge to use, which are shown by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest method to upgrade your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more costly, but is readily available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant boost in stats, and are worth the cost.

A piece of armor upgraded to max upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense values but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will drastically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The added defense usually isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Some weapons have special upgrades that enhance their inherent characteristics. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the possibility of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity for greater damage) are two examples.

Most upgrades for weapons require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars required to complete it. If you have multiple upgrade materials The cost of upgrading will be lower.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Before you could go to an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to an increased quality. You could continue doing this until you reach a maximum upgrade level for your weapon or equipment, after which the upgrades would reset.

You can still do this, but the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're much better off visiting stores and buying gear that has low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. These items have a better chance of granting you the highest tier advantages and benefits.

To improve their skills faster, most players will prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, enhancing the stats of a weapon and providing additional effects. Jewelry crafting is a method for creating them. You combine gemstones with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the quality of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents are obtained in the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and, sometimes, by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Based on the tier of the jewel, it will provide a different stat boosts when it is inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a high enough level to be able to get these. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with another identical jewel without damaging the original one. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item of equipment.

It is typical to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. The jewels can also enhance performance and create a surface harder than metal so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.

In addition to the above upgrades additionally, players can obtain glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These are a small perk and can be swapped freely however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like aegis and traits, cannot be swapped out, and can only be recovered using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide a wide range of tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. They are available in the starting area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They are also available from vendors and by completing road interaction. They can also be made by jewelers and later found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinket that a player will unlock is the cloak. It provides a tiny, but useful bonus in movement speed and the ability to evade. Then, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in a similar way to how a player can acquire weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has an upgrade slot which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be put into any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.

These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active when the hero is not fighting. This allows a hero to become more efficient even when not in combat. It also helps compensate for the lack of a excellent slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by the hero's Best item upgrade stats.

As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best item upgrade in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics are less significant than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true when you are looking to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It's best to upgrade just one crucial stat instead of two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their trinket to a red, while top and mid players typically choose the pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.

Aside from the items listed above, players can find other items in the form of trophies and awards. They can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For instance, finishing the main quest of a chapter or defeating a boss. They can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
