WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be visited anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item upgrade will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which displays an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and current item upgrader mod level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no Item Level Upgrade upgrader available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade item is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available once certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to create. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to avail the discount for all accounts when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
