1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot vacuum cleaner reviews's performance when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this robot automatic vacuum and mop robot and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
