Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds can add drama and adventure to a child's space. To make bunk beds more appealing to children, Ms. Keenan often includes a ledge to hold books or a reading lamp in every sleeping nook.
Many of our kids beds bunks can be converted to two twin beds in one which is ideal if you intend to move your children to their own bedrooms in the near future. Choose from finishes such as brushed white, gray and rich walnut.
Stairs and ladders
When choosing kids beds bunk you can choose to choose between stairs or ladders. Ladders can be easily installed and are also less expensive. They also provide an easy way to climb into the top bunk bed. They are also considered to be safer than staircases, as they have a larger area for children to step on and have a built-in handrail. They also have grooves on the steps, which help prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.
If you prefer the design and style of stairs, they could be a more elegant option to your bunk bed. Staircases can also be used in rooms that are small as they don't protrude as ladders. They can be constructed from metal or wood and are able to match the wide variety of bedroom styles. Some staircases are equipped with storage drawers that are a great way to increase the space of a bunk bed.
When choosing between a ladder or stairs it is important to consider the age of your child. It is recommended that children less than 6 years old not sleep on the top bunk. Children older than 6 years old who can climb vertically may be better off with stairs than a ladder. If you plan to use your bunk bed to accommodate guests, for example, young children or adults with limited mobility, it's best to choose stairs.
A straight staircase that runs along the sides of the bunk requires at least 95" of space on each side. If you don't have this much space, you can opt for a u-shaped staircase that doesn't need as much space but still provides a safe and secure way to access the top bunk. Some beds allow you to remove the stairs when they are not being used. This reduces the footprint of the bed and makes it more suited to multi-purpose spaces. There are stairs that connect to the top of the bed. This eliminates the need for separate handrails, and makes it easier to climb up and down to the bottom for kids bunk bed sale.
Guard Rails
Guard rails let children climb in and out of their beds without assistance and provide them with the feeling of independence and confidence. They must be set in a proper way to ensure that there aren't any gaps or loosening between guardrails and the bed frame. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer when installing guard rails and make sure to inspect them on a regular basis to ensure that they're not loose or have holes that could lead to trapping.
One of the most important safety concerns for bunk beds is to keep them free from electrical devices as well as other objects that could be projectiles when your kids bunk beds with mattresses play or sleep. Place bunk beds away from windows to prevent a potential fall hazard if your children get up on the upper floor.
You might want to put an evening light on the ladder so that it can illuminate the way up and down if your child wakes at the night to go to the bathroom, or if they are awakened by the sound of a storm and are forced to leave their room.
Another excellent security feature for bunk beds is a safety net, that can be put up on the top of the bunk to stop children from falling down while they are asleep or playing. This is a great idea particularly for older children who are more likely to sleep on the top bunk.
The guardrails should be secured to the bunk beds and can't be removed without tools. Openings in the guardrails above the mattress foundation must not be larger than 3.5 inches to avoid strangulation and entrapment. To test this, place the wedge block as shown in Figure 1 into each opening on the lower edge of the highest member of the guardrail and above the mattress's underside foundation. Apply 33 lbf (147 N) in a direction that is perpendicular to the plane of the large edge of the block for 1 minute.
It is also recommended to teach youngsters not to hang anything on the guardrails or ladder, like clothing, belts and sports equipment. Instead a rack for clothes should be used to ensure that these items don't become a strangulation hazard for your child(ren). Also, ensure that more than one child should not sleep on the top of the bunk as this can create an imbalance that could cause falls.
Mattresses
When choosing a mattress to use for bunk beds, consider the size and age of your child. A bunk mattress will last for at least eight years or until siblings are no longer sharing bedrooms and you'll need to choose a mattress that is designed to grow with your child, while providing sufficient support as they grow older.
There are a variety of bunk mattress sizes. They are typically full or twin size. If your child has allergies or asthma choose an allergy-free mattress that has an anti-dust barrier and a moisture-wicking cover. A mattress with an antimicrobial coating will shield the foam against harmful bacteria and germs.
Another crucial aspect to consider is the feel of your mattress. Kids generally weigh less than adults, which means they need a mattress that feels firm but also comfortable. Many latex and hybrid mattresses have a firm and a soft side to accommodate the needs of both children and adults.
Memory foam mattresses are great for kids bunk bed with storage but we don't recommend them because they tend not to cool effectively and can be hard on the spines of small children. Think about a hybrid or latex mattress that provides solid support and cooling infusions for your child or guests to rest comfortably.
A low-profile mattress is often the best kids bunkbeds choice for children's bunk beds. These are designed to be thinner than regular mattresses and to increase the height of the safety rail for the top bunk. They minimize "filler" material to offer the highest quality and a slim design.
Consider an innerspring model or hybrid with upper comfort layers which can be removed and replaced as your child grows. These models will give you an idea of how the mattress will stand up as your child grows and you can always include an extra mattress pad or bed skirt to stop it from slipping off the frame. Some beds have side rails or lip built in to prevent this.
Storage
Bunk beds are a great option to make space in shared children's rooms. They can also be a cost-effective alternative to purchasing two separate, full-sized single beds. Many bunks offer the option to add a trundle that can be tucked under the bunk that is not in use.
Consider installing a kids bedroom furniture set that has bookcases, desks, and/or dressers to maximize storage and space in a bedroom with bunk beds. This will allow you keep all of your child's clothes, toys and personal items in one location instead of stuffing everything into overstuffed closets or chests. These kids bedroom furniture sets are available from a number of retailers and usually meet all federal safety standards.
Stacked bunks are an ideal playground for the imagination as kids can transform the space beneath into cozy hidden play areas and hideaway spaces. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked 6 bunks in this room for the ultimate space for kids that can be used for sleeping, playing and even twirling superhero capes. The room is decorated with a bubble wallcovering by Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the ultimate getaway.
If you're unable to construct a staircase to your bunk beds then a ladder is a good alternative. These ladders are built with a combination of Single Socket Tee Flange, Single Socket Tee and 90 Degree Side Outlet Tee fittings. They can be easily adjusted to alter the distance between ladder rungs to make it easier for little ones to climb. The rungs of the ladder are also positioned in a way that they are directly in contact with the ground, instead of above it, to make climbing less intimidating.
Another method to maximize space in a room with bunk beds is to put up loft kids beds that can be moved down to just above the floor. This allows you to slide dressers, desks or toy chests beneath the beds. This is an excellent way to maximize space in small bedrooms, or in large family homes where beds have to be sufficient for multiple people to sleep.
