The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will also empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in an additional bin at the bottom. This reduces the amount fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and works while you are at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot cleaner robot hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum with mop vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop (a knockout post) combo is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum reviews uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Also a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
