World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the total of all the leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.

It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of dealing with. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor is possible using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by an equation that determines the worth of an item's stats actually are. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's actual item level.

However, this is not the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl because the level of the area the item upgrader kit was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or other special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to make them unique by putting a name on them.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat within the range, unless they are a unique item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, this will have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade item their gear earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. These can also be increased by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.

Furthermore some items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it is not successful.

When you upgrade item an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The chance of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5%.

The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
