1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that boosts the robot hoover and mop's performance when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoovers hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and provide better cleaning. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic automatic vacuum cleaner/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning robot mop and vacuum modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also grants access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
