The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.
Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris as well as hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models will also empty the dust bin on board and then deposit it in a larger bin at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum cleaners best hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning robot mop and vacuum mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
If you own a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have lot furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-robotic cleaner and mop that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
