It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or at school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot vacuums best uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
