WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other items. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool with the help of button, which displays a preview of the item when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item upgrading level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require several methods that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will be less expensive, even when they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item level upgrade (My Site) upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrader equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
