World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to the lower levels). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

On your PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's real item level.

This is not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item upgrading is by affixing it. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the Best item upgrade, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run than in later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade Item chance, which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Additionally some items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
