Guide To Item Upgrades: The Intermediate Guide To Item Upgrades
Path of Exile item upgrader Upgrades
Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of a variety of items in Path of Exile. They can cause additional damage, AD or even affixes.
In most cases, however, upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade gear due to their requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they're attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of games and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kits to salvage upgrades from the items.
The amount of damage that a piece of armor or weapon will absorb is contingent on the extent of its upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. However, it's important be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than before.
There are many different kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an additional amount of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The name of the upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade the item can be given, as illustrated below.
A few upgrades are magical or a combination of technology and magic, which is identified by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges in order to be used. They are referred to as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges for these upgrades change daily or never expire, dependent on the upgrade.
The cheapest method of upgrading armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be gathered through exploring the surroundings and looting chests of minor loot. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available in the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant increases in stats and are well worth the investment.
The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to its maximum upgrade level will boost its defense. However, it will also affect its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The boost in defense generally isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. For example an upgrade could enhance the damage caused by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of a rifle sniper. Certain weapons come with special upgrades to improve their inherent characteristics. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).
The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. They can be obtained by completing side quests or by killing a certain number of monsters and bosses.
To upgrade an equipment set, weapon piece, or Whetblade You must go to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars you will need to complete the upgrade. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be less.
In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your weapon and equipment sets changed a little. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5 you could upgrade items your weapon and equipment by paying a certain amount of Bars. You could do this until you reached a max upgrade level of the equipment or weapon, following which the upgrades would be reset.
It's still possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and buying gear with low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. These will be able to give you the best tier of perks and blessings.
To increase their level faster, many players prioritise upgrading their weapons. Additionally, players should consider upgrading the weapons they use with their squadmates to increase their power and effective. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will increase its utility when accompanied by biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are utilized in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be made through an process known as jewelry crafting, where you combine a gemstone and several ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the quality of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.
The Jeweler can improve the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel it will give different stat boosts when it is inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.
All kinds of jewels can be made at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a sufficient level to qualify for them. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped out by a different identical jewel without damaging the original one. You are able to replace the jewel only once in a piece of equipment.
The use of more jewels in the movement will make it more smooth and is typically done to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels also improve performance and make an outer layer that is more durable than metal so that repeated friction from pivots does not damage them.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs to enhance the appearance of your weapons and shields. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be traded, but they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also Scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, like aegis and traits, are not swappable, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
Trinkets
Trinkets can be used to give your character many small, but valuable advantages. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through doing road interactions. They can also be crafted by jewelers and later found or purchased on the Trading Post.
The first trinkets that a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which gives a small, but valuable boost to speed of movement and evasion. The player can then acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner to how they acquired weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal or jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with specific types of trinkets.
These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that remain active when the hero is not in combat. This enables the hero to be more effective when not active, and can also help fill in the void of a strong team or the absence of any slots in the talent tree that would normally be filled with the hero's ideal stats.
A good guideline for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the Item upgrade being upgraded. This is especially true when an item has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade just one crucial stat than two subpar ones.
In the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket to a red, while top and middle players usually choose the pink or green ward (depending on the game's matchup). These choices will have an impact on a hero's ability to control the map.
Apart from the items listed above, players can find other items in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or defeating an opponent. You can see them by clicking on the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
