World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the Best item upgrade to get upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It also serves as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the item level. It's a measure of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller is possible using the item's level.

On PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.

This is not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit score. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item upgrade for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. As with base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous for early game runs, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..

The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and each Best item upgrader with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
