World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

The value of an item level upgrade's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade item - image source, you choose to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's an indicator of the item's damage and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.

The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory says that the level of an item is calculated by formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, because the size of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then boosted by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item upgrader kit determines its upgrade cost. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to differentiate them by naming them.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item upgrade level, but every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attachments, or pick which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more beneficial in early game runs as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The performance of an can be affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
