WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item upgrades from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item upgrades and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. After an item Level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade item system was modified a bit, and some new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less, even in the event that they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
